Okay, so I saw this watch the other day, and I just had to have it. It’s a Patek Philippe Calatrava 5088/100P-001. I’m not gonna lie, it’s a pretty fancy watch, but I figured, why not try to remake it myself? It is a real masterpiece, but they just made ten of this.

First things first, I needed to find some good pictures of the watch. I looked all over the internet, and finally found some really clear ones on a few websites. These pictures were a lifesaver because I needed to see every little detail of the watch.

Next, I started gathering my materials. The original watch is made of platinum, which is way out of my budget. I decided to go with stainless steel instead, it looks pretty similar and is much cheaper. I also found some old watch parts that I could use for the inside of the watch.

I started by making the case. I used a small lathe to shape the stainless steel into a circle, just like the original watch. This part was tricky because I had to make sure it was the exact same size as the original. The dial was another big challenge. I used a special kind of paper that looked like the enamel used on the original. I drew the design on the paper with a really fine pen and it turned out pretty cool!

Putting the watch together was like solving a really complicated puzzle. I used a small screwdriver and tweezers to put all the tiny parts in place. I had to be super careful not to break anything. There were a few times when I messed up and had to start over, but I didn’t give up.

The Most Difficult Part

The hardest part was definitely making the hands. I used really thin pieces of metal and shaped them with a tiny file. It took me a bunch of tries to get them just right. I also added a sapphire-crystal back to my watch, just like the original. It’s a nice touch because you can see all the tiny parts moving inside.

The End of the Project

After a lot of hard work, my remake of the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5088/100P-001 was finally done! It’s not perfect, but I’m really proud of it. It looks pretty close to the original, and it was a ton of fun to make.

Here’s what I learned from this project:

  • Patience is key: Making a watch takes a lot of time and patience.
  • Details matter: Even the smallest details can make a big difference.
  • Don’t give up: Even if you mess up, keep trying!

I hope you enjoyed reading about my little project. Maybe it will inspire you to try making something yourself. It’s a great feeling to create something with your own hands!
