Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to remake this Prada Galleria Saffiano leather bag for a while now. You know, the big one, the large size. It’s a classic, super iconic, but let me tell you, getting it right is a whole other story.
Anyway, I finally decided to bite the bullet and try to remake one myself. First thing I did was hop online to do some research. Turns out, this bag is named after Prada’s flagship store, which they call the “Galleria.” Who knew, right?
Then I started looking into what kind of leather this “Saffiano” really is. I read somewhere that it’s got this special texture, kind of like a cross-hatch pattern, that makes it super durable and scratch-resistant. Apparently, it’s calf leather that’s been treated with some kind of special process, but the details are all top-secret, of course. Made me even more curious. I started digging around to find leather that looked and felt similar. I visited a few specialty stores in town, but most of what they had was either too thin, too soft, or just didn’t have that right look.
Finally, I found this gorgeous piece of blue full-grain Saffiano calf leather that looked like the real deal, or at least, good enough for me. It was even thick and sturdy, and when I ran my fingers over it, I could feel that subtle texture. Bingo!
I also learned that the original bag had these cool gold-plated hardware accents. I found some similar ones at a local shop, and they even had the same triangle logo as the original.
So, with all my materials gathered, I started on the actual process of creating the bag. That is also when the real challenge began. I had to measure and cut each piece of leather carefully, making sure everything was symmetrical and lined up perfectly. Then came the stitching, which took forever, I watched a video online that gave details on the stitch length and stitch type. I followed the process and used the same method to stitch my remake bag.
The last step involved attaching the hardware. This was probably the trickiest part. The handles, the zipper, the little feet at the bottom, the metal logo, everything needed to be placed just right and secured tightly. After a few frustrating attempts, I finally got it. The handles were attached, the zipper moved nicely, and the bag stood perfectly.
Putting it all together took way longer than I expected, like, days! But seeing the finished product made it all worthwhile. It is not a perfect replica, but it’s pretty darn close, and I’m super proud of how it turned out.
