Okay, so I’ve been eyeing this PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag for a while now. It’s a classic, you know? I finally decided, screw it, I’m gonna make one myself! I mean, why not? I’ve got some time and I like a good challenge.

First thing I did was I went online and looked everywhere to find a similar bag. I found this Prada medium Galleria leather tote bag, and it looked pretty close to what I wanted. Then, I looked at a bunch of pictures of the bag. There were tons of them! I saw one in yellow, another one in pink, and loads of the classic black. These pictures gave me a good look at the bag from all angles.

Then I started looking at the materials. The bag’s made of this Saffiano leather, which I learned is pretty unique. I looked around for similar material. It’s tough stuff! I also noticed it had gold-toned hardware and a removable leather keyring. Fancy!

I got some leather that looked pretty close, though it was a real pain to find the right texture. I bought some tools from a local craft store – needles, thread, a cutting mat, the whole shebang. I even watched some videos online to get an idea of how to put it all together.

  • First step: Cutting the leather. This was tricky. I made a rough pattern based on the pictures I found.
  • Next up: Sewing. Let me tell you, sewing thick leather is no joke! My fingers were sore for days.
  • Then came the handles. I tried to copy the rolled top handles I saw on some of the bags. They turned out okay, I guess.
  • Putting the lining in was another challenge. I chose a nice, simple fabric. I used polyamide this time.
  • Finally, I added the hardware. I found some gold-toned buckles and rings that looked similar enough.

It took me weeks, but I finally finished it! It’s not perfect, but it kinda looks like the real deal. I even managed to add a little triangle logo, although it’s definitely not the real enamel one. I even made a detachable shoulder strap, just like the original! My bag also has a top zip.

The Result

Honestly, it was way harder than I thought it would be. But I’m pretty proud of myself for actually doing it! It’s a pretty nice bag if I do say so myself. I even use it sometimes, It’s a good conversation starter, that’s for sure! I don’t think it will fool any experts. But it was a fun project. And hey, I saved a ton of money! Would I do it again? Probably not. But it was definitely a learning experience.
