Okay, so I’ve been seeing this YSL June Box Bag everywhere lately, and I got obsessed. It’s that cute little boxy bag with the YSL logo on the front. Super chic, you know? But, uh, the price tag? Not so chic. So, I thought, “Why not try to make one myself?”
First, I spent hours online, just looking at pictures of the bag. I needed to figure out what kind of leather it was. It looked pretty smooth to me, so I searched the leather I had on hand, a smooth one would be perfect. Also, I analyzed how big it was, and what the inside looked like. You wouldn’t believe how many close-up shots of bags I’ve seen in the past few days.
After that, I started sketching. I’m no artist, but I managed to draw a rough outline of the bag, trying to get the proportions right. It’s basically a rectangle with a flap, so it wasn’t rocket science. Then I grabbed some cardboard and started cutting and folding, making a little mock-up of the bag. It looked wonky at first, but it helped me visualize the size and shape.
- Get the Materials:
- Smooth black leather.
- Black thread.
- Leather glue.
- That YSL logo thingy. I found a metal one online that looked pretty close.
- A magnetic snap for the closure.
The next step was the scary part: cutting the leather. I measured everything like five times before making a single cut. It’s not like fabric, where you can just get more if you mess up. Leather is expensive! Slowly but surely, I cut out all the pieces.
Then came the stitching. Oh boy, the stitching. Let me tell you, sewing leather is tough. I had a leather needle and some strong thread, but it was still a workout. My fingers were sore, but I kept going. I hand-stitched most of it, which took forever, but I wanted it to look good.
The trickiest part was getting that YSL logo on the flap. I used some heavy-duty glue and clamped it down for what felt like a year. Once that was secure, I added the magnetic snap closure, which was surprisingly easy. It came down to finally attach the flap.
Finishing Touches
Once I got the main parts of the bag I finally assembled everything together, it was a slow but satisfying process. I attached the sides to the front and back, then sewed the top part. And guess what? It actually started to look like a bag! I added a strap, and boom! I had my very own YSL-inspired June Box Bag.
It’s not perfect, of course. There are a few wonky stitches, and it’s probably not as polished as the real thing. But you know what? I made it myself, and that’s pretty darn cool. Plus, I saved a ton of money. So, if you’re ever feeling crafty and have a lot of patience, maybe give it a try! It’s a fun project, and you end up with a pretty sweet bag. Just be prepared for sore fingers and maybe a few swear words along the way.
