Alright, so I’ve been wanting to remake a Prada Galleria Saffiano leather bag for a while now, you know, the classic style. It’s just so elegant, and I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” So, I finally decided to do it.

First off, I spent a good chunk of time just staring at pictures of the bag online. I mean, I looked at it from every possible angle. You gotta really know your subject, right? Then I started sketching it out, trying to get all the proportions and details just right. It took a few tries, but I eventually got a design I was happy with.

Next up was picking the right materials. I really wanted to use Saffiano leather like the original. I also need to figure out the inner lining. After a lot of searching, I found a pretty good leather online. For the lining, I ended up using a durable fabric that felt pretty close to the real deal.

Cutting the leather was pretty nerve-wracking, to be honest. One wrong move and you’ve ruined a whole piece. But I took it slow, double-checked all my measurements, and managed to get all the pieces cut out without any major disasters. I also cut out all the pieces for the lining, making sure everything was going to fit together nicely.

Then came the sewing. This was definitely the most time-consuming part. I used a leather sewing machine. Stitching Saffiano leather can be tricky because it’s pretty stiff, but I got the hang of it after a few practice runs. I sewed the main body of the bag first, then added the handles and the side panels. I also sewed together all the pieces for the lining and then attached it to the inside of the bag.

  • Main Body Assembly: Carefully stitched the front, back, and bottom panels.
  • Handle Attachment: Precisely attached the handles, ensuring they were secure and even.
  • Side Panel Addition: Added the side panels to give the bag its structure.
  • Lining Installation: Sewed the lining pieces and attached them to the inside of the bag for a clean finish.

The bag was really starting to take shape at this point. But there were still a few more details to take care of. I managed to find a similar key ring, although it wasn’t easy. That little thing really completes the look.

  • Key Ring Attachment: Fixed the removable leather key ring to add a touch of authenticity.

The last step was adding the hardware. I found some buckles and a zipper that were pretty similar to the ones on the original bag. Attaching the hardware was a bit fiddly, but I got it done eventually.

And there you have it, my very own handmade Galleria bag! It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty darn proud of it. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it in the end. I learned so much during this project, and I’m already thinking about what I want to make next. Maybe I’ll tackle a Re-Nylon bag next, who knows?

Final Touches

  • Hardware Attachment: Carefully positioned and attached the buckles and zipper, matching the original design.
  • Quality Check: Inspected every stitch and detail to ensure durability and aesthetics.

It was a fun and challenging experience, and I’m thrilled with how it turned out. This whole process really makes you appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into these luxury bags. Hope you guys enjoyed this little journey with me!
