Remake Yves Saint Laurent YSL COLLEGE BAG: Classic Style on a Budget.

Okay, so I’m going to tell you about the time I tried to remake the YSL College bag. You know, the classic style, super chic. I’ve always loved that bag, but the price tag? Ouch. So, I thought, “Why not try making one myself?” It seemed like a fun challenge, and I was pretty confident in my crafting skills.

First, I needed to get the materials. I spent days hunting down the perfect leather. I wanted that same smooth, luxurious feel as the real deal. After checking out a bunch of shops and feeling different leathers, I finally found one that felt just right. Then came the hardware – the chain, the YSL logo, all that shiny stuff. That was another adventure in itself, running around town trying to find pieces that looked authentic and not cheap.

Once I had all my materials, I started with the pattern. This was tricky. I couldn’t exactly just copy a real YSL bag, so I watched a few videos online about bag making and studied lots of pictures of the College bag. Then I tried to draw a pattern based on what I learned. It took me a few tries, and a lot of crumpled paper, but I finally came up with something that looked about right.

Next, I started cutting the leather. This was nerve-wracking! I didn’t want to mess up the beautiful leather I’d spent so much time and money on. I took it slow, carefully following the pattern lines with my cutter. It was like surgery, but with leather. After I cut out the leather, I start to sew all the pieces together.

Then came the sewing. Oh boy, the sewing. Let me tell you, sewing thick leather is no joke. My little sewing machine was struggling! I broke a few needles and had to redo some seams more times than I care to admit. It was a test of patience, that’s for sure. But I kept at it, piece by piece, slowly but surely, the bag started to take shape.

Adding the hardware was the most satisfying part. Seeing that YSL logo on the front flap really made it feel like a real bag. I used a special tool to punch holes and set the rivets, trying to make everything as neat and professional-looking as possible.

Finally, after weeks of work, it was done! My very own handmade YSL College bag. Was it perfect? No way. There were a few wonky stitches and some imperfections here and there. I think the YSL logo I bought is still a bit bigger than the original one. But you know what? I was so proud of it! I had taken a bunch of raw materials and turned them into something beautiful and functional. Plus, it is at least 20% cheaper than the real one.

  • It was a huge learning experience. I learned a ton about leatherworking, pattern making, and just the general process of creating something from scratch.
  • Would I do it again? Maybe. It was a lot of work, but it was also really rewarding.
  • Would I recommend it? If you’re patient, enjoy a challenge, and don’t mind a few imperfections, then go for it! It is cheaper than the real one. But if you want a perfect bag, it’s probably better to just save up and buy the real thing. And technically, YSL is now Saint Laurent, but whatever.

In the end, it wasn’t just about having a designer bag. It was about the process, the creativity, and the satisfaction of making something with my own two hands. And that’s something no amount of money can buy.
