So, I finally decided to dive into the world of OMEGA Speedmaster 38mm watches. You know, those fancy timepieces everyone raves about? Yeah, well, I’ve always wanted one, but the price tag? Oof. Let’s just say it’s not exactly pocket change.
First, I spent hours, and I mean hours, online, just looking at pictures and reading about them. I learned that the real OMEGA Speedmaster 38mm is a pretty big deal. Shiny, expensive, and apparently, something that only people with serious cash can afford. I also found that there are like 16 different versions of it. Different materials, colors, straps… you name it. This made me wonder, what’s the cheapest option. I learned that the 38mm Speedmaster is the cheapest Speedmaster.
Anyway, I wasn’t about to drop a few grand without knowing what I was getting into. So, I hit up the forums. I found this one thread where people were talking about the bracelet. One guy said it felt cheap, like a sub-1000 watch. I mean, if I’m paying that much for a watch, I want it to feel like it, right? But then others were saying that you can actually get different bracelets, like this one brand called Forstner, which apparently makes bracelets specifically for Speedmasters. But the guy also said that an authorized dealer can also help with the link problem.
Then came the whole “fake watch” thing. I read somewhere that some folks can tell if a watch is fake by looking at the little dials or the numbers. Apparently, on the fakes, they’re sometimes crooked or don’t match up. I also found out that the Omega store in Dubai was selling one for €3,790 after a discount. They said it was the only 38mm masculine model they make/sell.
I also learned that this watch was made for women. And I thought it would look big on my 6 inch wrist. The price made me wonder if I should go for a Tudor BB54 instead.
After all that research, I decided to check out some used ones. I mean, why not save a few bucks, right? I found a few online that looked pretty good, but I was still a bit nervous. After all, it’s not like buying a used T-shirt or something.
In the end, I think I’m getting closer to pulling the trigger. It’s a big decision, but hey, you only live once, right? Plus, they say you can wear these things anywhere, from the grocery store to a wedding. So, I guess it’s like a two-for-one deal or something. I still don’t know if I should just go with the real thing or a used one.
